Cheb war cemetery
The war cemetery Cheb is part of the cemetery complex of the Czech city of Cheb and is a resting place for over 6,000 war dead.
The war cemetery was established between 2008 and 2010 on the initiative of the German War Graves Commission . It commemorates both fallen German soldiers and civilian victims, as well as French and Russian citizens who died as prisoners of war and forced laborers in Cheb. The dead are not just soldiers and civilians who died in the city: the dead were exhumed and reburied from around 145 locations in the Czech Republic. So far 6,000 dead have been buried here, the facility is to be expanded even further. Information about the deceased is available in the open space and in the exhibition rooms. In many graves, personal identification of the dead was no longer possible, but in some cases at least personal names are known. The war dead who could no longer be reburied are also listed by name.
