The dead

The German dead in World War I come from the first border battles, from battles in late August 1914 and mid-January 1915 around the Vosges ridge, from battles in 1915 and early 1916 around Hartmannsweilerkopf and Hirzstein, and from the subsequent positional war until the end of the war in 1918. The dead from six adjacent local areas were reburied here from temporary graves by the French military authorities after the First World War. The graves of the Jewish soldiers who died are marked with grave steles.

The German dead in World War II died defending the Vosges ridge and from wounds in hospitals.

The copilot Georges Gaillard rests in grave 209 and next to it the pilot Aimé Maneval. A memorial stone commemorates David Bloch. Six French soldiers from the Second World War are buried. A French soldier rests here from the Algerian war .
