The Center for Criminology (KrimZ) is the central research and documentation center of the federal and the states in Germany for criminological - forensic research questions. It was opened in 1986 and is based in Wiesbaden .

organization

The office is organized in the legal form of a registered association , full members are the Federal Republic of Germany and its federal states. The Central Criminological Office is supported in its scientific work by an advisory board. The advisory board is made up of representatives from the criminal justice system, police institutions and university lecturers from various disciplines who are important for criminological research. Half of the funding is provided by the federal government and the other half. The current director of the KrimZ is Martin Rettenberger. Former directors are Jörg-Martin Jehle (1986 to 1997) and Rudolf Egg (1997 to 2014).

tasks

According to its statutes, the tasks are to promote criminological research as well as the development and communication of criminological knowledge for science, legislation, administration of justice and administration. The most important activities resulting from this are the implementation of our own research projects, the organization of specialist conferences and literature documentation. The KrimZ operates a criminological literature database under the name KrimLit, which contains article documentation from scientific journals. Own research results and conference proceedings are mainly published in the KrimZ book series Kriminologie und Praxis (KUP) or made accessible in electronic form.

The library has a stock of around 29,000 books with a thematic focus on criminology.
