Rudolf Egg (born June 21, 1948 in Nuremberg ) is a German psychologist and criminologist . His focus is criminal psychology .

Life

Rudolf Egg studied psychology from 1968 to 1973 at the Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen . From 1973 to 1983 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Psychology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 1979 he obtained the academic degree of Dr. phil. in the subjects of psychology, criminology and psychopathology; 1983 followed the habilitation. From 1983 to 1985 Egg represented the chair for psychology at the University of Bayreuth . In 1990 he was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 1986 he took over the position of deputy director of the newly founded Criminological Central Agency of the Federal and State Governments (KrimZ) in Wiesbaden and from 1997 to 2014, when his successor Martin Rettenberger was appointed on the occasion of his retirement, he was its director.

In 2005, Egg obtained the certificate “Specialist Psychologist for Legal Psychology ( BDP / DGPs )”.

From 2004 to 2010 Rudolf Egg was chairman of the board of the German Forum for Crime Prevention Foundation . During his term of office, he reported to the Prime Minister's Conference regarding the consequences of the rampage in Erfurt .

Focus of work

Rudolf Egg's scientific focus is on studies on the question of recidivism and the treatment of offenders, especially sex offenders, as well as aspects of the personality and danger of serial offenders. He is particularly interested in the social therapeutic treatment of offenders, a topic that he dealt with in detail in his dissertation and habilitation thesis. For courts and penal institutions, Rudolf Egg also prepares forensic-psychological reports, namely on crime prognosis and prison planning, but also on crime-psychological analysis.

public perception

Egg has been a sought-after expert and discussion partner for the German media for years. He is often asked about current criminal cases, for example in the ARD and ZDF or by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung . His expertise is specifically drawn on when it comes to “sexual exploitation of children”, “amoklage”, “psychotherapy for sexual and violent criminals in cooperation with the courts” or even “cannibalism”. On the basis of the criminal complaints that were filed in connection with New Year's Eve 2015/2016 in Cologne and collected by the investigative group (EG) New Year of the Cologne police, Egg prepared an expert opinion in 2016 on behalf of the Parliamentary Investigation Committee IV of the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament.
