The German Forum for Crime Prevention Foundation (DFK) is a non-profit, legal foundation under civil law based in Bonn . The main purpose of the DFK is to promote crime prevention in all aspects.

history

The foundation was established on June 21, 2001 by the Federal Republic of Germany and the states of Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia. Due to the later admission of the remaining federal states as well as representatives of the economy, associations, trade unions and large religious communities, the foundation's board of trustees is now composed of society as a whole.

The statutes were approved on June 29, 2001 by the Ministry of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia as the highest foundation authority and see the promotion of crime prevention through the bundling of social forces, the networking between science, practice and politics as well as through the initiation of projects, research contributions or symposia in front. The constituent meeting of the foundation took place on November 24, 2001 in Bellevue Palace in the presence of Federal President Johannes Rau .

Board of Trustees, Board of Directors and Office

The Foundation's Board of Trustees currently consists of 57 members, currently chaired by the Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection. The Vice-President is the Lower Saxony Minister of Justice.

The board is elected by the board of trustees and consists of chairman Gerd Neubeck (Deutsche Bahn AG), executive board member Stefan Daniel (Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection) and another member Norbert Seitz (Federal Ministry of the Interior).

The DFK office is based at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of the Interior. Currently eight employees are assigned from federal and state departments and authorities. The team currently includes seven scientists who are financed from the federal budget (see "NZK" below).

Focus of work

The core task of the foundation is the transfer of knowledge from criminological research and prevention practice. The DFK acts as a national and international network partner, for example as a contact point in the European Crime Prevention Network , is involved in and at crime preventive events such as the German Prevention Day, and supports numerous crime preventive projects and programs. In addition, the magazine forum kriminalprävention appears quarterly , the only periodical publication in this area in Germany. Wolfgang Kahl has been the editor in charge since 2010. The foundation's work currently focuses on violence prevention, extremism prevention, protection of refugees, home burglary prevention, urban crime prevention and municipal prevention management.

With the guidepost prevention , the DFK has created a comprehensive information portal on “Development Promotion and Violence Prevention for Young People”. In cooperation with the Green List Prevention , the portal refers to prevention programs whose effectiveness has been scientifically tested and which can now be recommended by science to practitioners from daycare centers, schools and youth facilities.

National Center for Crime Prevention

Since January 2016, the “National Center for Crime Prevention” (NZK) has been affiliated with the DFK. The NZK is a scientific specialist service for criminal policy and crime prevention, which was founded on the recommendation of the working group "Crime and Security" in the future dialogue of the Chancellor, is currently in a development phase and is to be merged with the DFK. The management has been taken over by Andreas Armborst, who and his interdisciplinary team are based in an office community with the DFK office. The NZK carries out independent primary research and prepares research syntheses and meta-analyzes on an existing state of research. The current main topics of the NZK are Islamist radicalization, right-wing extremism, hooliganism, young multiple offenders and sexual offenses.

Publications

In cooperation with authors from science and practice, the DFK has created a number of its own publications that can be accessed via the homepage or the office. In the literature box, the DFK has also included external literature tips on criminological and preventive topics, which can be queried via the homepage.
