The German Prevention Day is an international and the largest European congress on crime prevention and related prevention areas, which takes place every two days in Germany.

The Congress

The congress is aimed at those responsible for prevention in municipalities, in the police, in the health system, in youth welfare, in the judiciary, in religious communities, in the education sector, in clubs and associations, as well as politicians and scientists. In addition to crime prevention , addiction prevention , traffic prevention and various prevention areas in health care are also discussed.

The German Prevention Day is intended to form a discussion forum for current and fundamental questions of prevention and to bring together partners in prevention. Recommendations for practice, politics, administration and science are developed. To prepare for a prevention day, a program advisory board is formed in which the organizer as well as the host and permanent event partners are represented. The program advisory board is responsible for questions regarding the content of the upcoming congress.

history

The Prevention Day has been held annually in various German cities since 1995. Each congress is dedicated to a different key topic.

The following congresses have taken place so far: Lübeck 1995, Münster 1996, Bonn 1997, Bonn 1998, Hoyerswerda 1999, Düsseldorf 2000, Düsseldorf 2001, Hanover 2003, Stuttgart 2004, Hanover 2005, Nuremberg 2006, Wiesbaden 2007, Leipzig 2008, Hanover 2009, Berlin 2010 , Oldenburg 2011, Munich 2012, Bielefeld 2013, Karlsruhe 2014, Frankfurt am Main 2015, Magdeburg 2016, Hanover 2017, Dresden 2018, Berlin 2019.

In 2020 the prevention day will take place in Kassel.

The organizer of the German Prevention Day is the "DPT - German Prevention Day", non-profit company mbH - a 100% subsidiary of the German Foundation for Crime Prevention and Criminal Assistance (DVS). The managing director of the German Prevention Day and DVS is Erich Marks . The Chairman of the Board of Management of DVS is Hans-Jürgen Kerner .

Permanent event partners of the German Prevention Day are the DBH - Professional Association for Social Work, Criminal Law and Criminal Policy , the White Ring , the Police Crime Prevention Program of the Länder and the Federal Government (ProPK) and the German Forum for Crime Prevention Foundation (DFK).

At the international level, the German Prevention Day is a member of the International Center for the Prevention of Crime (ICPC) based in Montreal, the European Forum for Urban Security (EFUS) based in Paris, and the Korean Institute of Criminology (KIC) based in Seoul as well as the Violence Prevention Alliance of the WHO (Geneva).

Scientific opinion

Since the 12th German Prevention Day in 2007, a scientific report has been drawn up on a regular basis for each congress on the respective focus topic defined in advance by the program advisory board. The first report was prepared by Britta Bannenberg on the 8th German Prevention Day in Hanover in 2003 , between 2007 and 2014 (12th - 19th DPT) by Ms. Wiebke Steffen and subsequently on the 20th German Prevention Day by Stephan L. Thomsen. The report for the 21st German Prevention Day was written by Regina Ammicht Quinn .

DPT institute

In 2012, the German Prevention Day founded the DPT Institute (dpt-i) for applied prevention research. It is intended to promote the dialogue between prevention research, practice and policy. The focus of the institute is on violence prevention. In addition to advising the DPT and its partners, the institute carries out its own research projects, which are funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) , among others .

Publications

In the context of the German Prevention Day, selected articles from the German Prevention Day and the English-language series International Perspectives of Crime Prevention appear annually .
