European Forum for Urban Security

The European Forum for Urban Security (EFUS) is a French association based in Paris .

The non-governmental organization has offices in Brussels and Budapest, which was founded in 1987 in Barcelona under the auspices of the Council of Europe . The think tank serves to network and cooperate between more than 300 European cities to strengthen security and prevention policies . It is led by an “Executive Committee” of 21 cities. National forums have been established in France, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal and Germany. The German Prevention Day , which has similar goals, has been an officially associated member since 2009.

It promotes the role of local administrations at national and European level and supports contacts between European cities and regions through the exchange of experience, cooperation and training through close cooperation between administrations and prevention bodies at local, national, European and international level. To ensure that this does not lead to the exclusion or exclusion of certain social groups during implementation , the observance of human rights is one of its fundamental principles. The principles of the forum are set out in the Zaragoza City Manifesto "Security, Democracy and Cities" (2006).

The aim of the joint activities is local crime prevention and social cohesion .

The project "Innovative Strategies for the Prevention of Reoffending" develops innovative strategies for the prevention of repeat offenses .

The Forum is a member of the "Civil Society Forum on Drugs" (Civil Society Forum on Drugs) and the Expert Group of the European Commission "Trafficking in human beings" ( human trafficking ) and the "Policy need for data on crime and criminal justice" ( "Group for Data Crime and criminal justice a set of rules is needed ”) and is part of the crime prevention network of the European Union . In the field of crime prevention, it has an advisory status to the United Nations , the Council of Europe and the European Commission. In 1998 the forum was the recipient of the UN-HABITAT's "Scroll of Honor" award . The forum is a founding member of the International Center for the Prevention of Crime (ICPC).
