Krokus (breakfast service)
The Krokus-Déjeuner is a breakfast service that was created at the Meißen porcelain factory in 1896 .
In 1896, the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory launched the first competition to create a contemporary and cheap déjeuner in terms of shape and decoration for the artistic modernization of tableware , from which the Krokus-Déjeuner , designed by Konrad Hentschel , emerged. This breakfast service received enormous attention and recognition; it was sold more than twenty-five times at its presentation at the Paris World Exhibition in 1900. "He [Konrad Hentschel] was inspired by the crocus blossom in the three-dimensional structure of the vessels as well as in the generous sharp tint, and thus created an ensemble that was consistently designed in the spirit of Art Nouveau."
