Crown percent

The crown percentage describes the proportion of green branches - the " crown " - of a tree in its height. The crown percentage is basically to be equated with the vitality - and the resulting mass production - as well as the stability of an individual tree.

With regard to the economic quality of the wood, the crown percentage tends to be - but not necessarily - negatively correlated. Optimizing the combination of vitality, stability, mass performance and quality is a fundamental concern of silviculture .
