Krummavísa
The Krummavísa (translatable as "Rabenvers", "Rabenstrophe" or "Rabenweise"), also known as Krummi krunkar úti (about "The raven croaked"), is an Icelandic folk song . The Krummavísa should not be confused with the thematically similar, longer Krummavísur ("raven stanzas", plural).
background
The Krummavísa , which consists of a single stanza, was published in 1906 in the book Íslenzk þjóðlög ("Icelandic Folk Songs") by Bjarni Þorsteinsson . Bjarni named Ólafur Davíðsson as a source , who in turn learned the song in his youth on Skagafjörður .
The title of the song is made up of the Icelandic words krummi and vísa . Krummi is a slang term for the raven ( hrafn ). Vísa can be translated as “verse”, “stanza” or “sage”.
