The Krumme Tor is a gate of the listed Domburg in the city of Merseburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

It spans Domstrasse in Merseburg and is located a little west of Merseburg Cathedral .

Architecture and history

The Krumme Tor belonged to the outermost of three wall rings of the Domburg. The weir system was built in the High Middle Ages . Around 1430 the original Krumme Tor, consisting of a round gate tower and the actual gate system, was renewed. In 1822 the gate system was torn down, but then in 1888 it was rebuilt in a modified, romanticized form. The original tower was preserved. The original design of the top of the tower, without battlements, can be seen on the exposed north side.

In 2006 the gate tower was expanded for private residential use.
