Krumstert
Krumstert is the name of an East Frisian coin that was in circulation from 1419.
The graduation was accordingly 1 Taler , 4 Orth (Ort or Gulden) 1 Orth, (Ort or Gulden) = 46 Krumstert. There were several parallel currencies at the time. For example, an Arensgulden (= Arnhem Geldrischer Gulden) was worth 15 or 16 Krumstert.
The Krumstert was originally a Flemish coin from 1419. It got its name from the lion with a very crooked tail (= star) depicted on it.
By the chief family of the Cirksena the lion image was replaced by the harpy . Because of their high silver content, these coins were also called Witten (= white pfennig), as they shone very brightly when they were new.
