Cryostripping

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cryostripping is a procedure used to treat varicose veins .

It is a modern and gentle surgical procedure for the rehabilitation of a saphenous vein disease of the great saphenous vein (VSM) or small saphenous vein (VSP), with which very good cosmetic results can be achieved, as the trunk vein is removed without incisions on the leg. An incision is only made in the groin for the crossectomy. The diseased trunk vein is threaded through a cold probe, the tip of which is cooled with liquid nitrogen, and frozen solid. It can then be pulled out completely within seconds. This shortens the operating time compared to standard procedures and ensures complete removal, which reduces the risk of recurrences (new growths).
