Krypton (Superman)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Krypton is a fictional planet in the stories about the science fiction hero Superman and the title or title component of numerous book and comic publications by the US publisher DC Comics , which publishes the Superman comics. As a registered trademark, Krypton is owned by entertainment company WarnerMedia , the parent company of DC Comics.

Krypton as an American commonplace

The story of the destruction of Krypton, which also represents the genre-common origin story of the superhero Superman, is practically part of American folklore today . It describes how krypton is destroyed by a natural disaster (or by a nuclear accident). Only the babies Kal-El and his cousin Kara zor-el survived this disaster because Kal-El's parents, the scientist Jor-El and his wife Lara, put them in a small rocket that sends them on their way to Earth. There Kal-El and his cousin Kara, who look like humans but have superhuman abilities as Kryptonians, are adopted by the farming couple Kent, whom Kal-El baptizes with the name Clark Kent and his cousin with the name Kara Kent. Eventually they become the heroic Superman and Supergirl.

Krypton is also the namesake for the mineral kryptonite, which comes from there .

DC Comics itself first used the name Krypton in 1981 in the title of a comic series. From July to September 1979, DC published a mini-series limited to three issues that shed light on the history of the planet and went by the name of World of Krypton . The mini-series Krypton Chronicles , also limited to three issues, followed from September to November 1981 . In this, Superman tries to come to terms with the life of his Kryptonian ancestors.
