Kunsthalle Winterthur
The Kunsthalle Winterthur is an art museum in Winterthur . It is located on the upper floor of the former weighing house in the old town of Winterthur , which is included in the list of cultural assets of national importance . The Kunsthalle shows five to six changing exhibitions of contemporary art every year, including international positions as well as those by Winterthur artists.
history
There have been exhibition rooms in the Waaghaus for a long time. The Kunstverein Winterthur, founded in 1848, already had its exhibition space on the upper floor of the Waaghaus. These were closed and renovated in 1916 after the art association's collections were presented in the newly opened Kunstmuseum Winterthur . In 1971 the exhibition halls were reopened with an exhibition by Eugen Früh . After a renovation of the Waaghaus in 1988/89, the Kunsthalle was handed over to today's sponsoring association in 1980 with an exhibition by Max Bill .
The third room
The third room is the communication and meeting place of the Kunsthalle Winterthur. The management of the Kunsthalle is accessible through the combination of administration and visitor structures. In addition to a sofa corner, there is a reading library and a selection of artist publications from the Publish and be damned collection. The third room was furnished by the Swiss artist Mark Divo (* 1966) based on his inhabited sculptures and is open to visitors during the opening hours of the exhibitions.
Café des Arts
On the occasion of each exhibition, the team from the Café des Arts turns the third room into a meeting point for Winterthur artists and their friends on Wednesday evening. The evenings are always devoted to other topics from art and culture, to which changing moderators invite a discussion group.
Documentation center
The third room houses the documentation center for the Winterthur artists. They have the opportunity to store their work documentation in it, so that the public can quickly and comprehensively get a picture of regional art production.
