Capuchin monastery in Traunstein
The Kapuzinerkloster Traunstein is a former monastery of the Capuchins in Traunstein in Bavaria in the diocese of Munich and Freising.
history
The monastery was founded in 1685 and dissolved in 1805 in the course of secularization . The monastery church was then used as a granary and parts of the monastery complex were demolished. The magistrate later bought the building and set up a girls' school for the English Misses and a home for small children. The English Fräulein's girls' school moved to Sparz near Traunstein in 1895, other parts of the monastery were demolished and the Marienkapelle was relocated.
The monastery church now serves as a concert hall and exhibition space for regional artists under the name Kunstraum Klosterkirche .
In 2017/18, the area of the monastery church is to be converted into an art and culture center (KuKK) for 8.3 million euros.
