Little is known of the history of the art publisher. The founder and owner of the company was the draftsman Gustav Täubert , who specialized in architectural and landscape views. His father was a copperplate engraver and had introduced him to the technique of engraving copper, steel and wood, as well as making (clay) lithographs. In 1834 Gustav Täubert then took up studies at the art academy in Dresden. He then went into business for himself as an art publisher with his own shop, which he opened in Altmarkt 8 in Dresden. He joined the mountain association of Saxon Switzerland and actively promoted tourism in Dresden and the surrounding area, but also in other scenic areas of Germany such as the Harz and the Giant Mountains. For visitors to these regions he produced, among other things, attractively designed Leporellos or landscape views as souvenirs. His album from Dresden and Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland , for example , which appeared in several editions around 1860, and the 256 Views of the Rhine , which were published around 1865 by his publishing house in Dresden, were particularly popular .

Gustav Täubert also became known through his guide through Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland. With a brief consideration of the immediate vicinity of Dresden and a part of the Bohemian Central Uplands and Ore Mountains , which appeared in at least 27 editions and claimed to be the oldest, most loyal leader of its kind.
