The Kuril Bobtail is a cat of Russian origin.

history

The Kuril Bobtail has been found on Sakhalin Island and the Kuril Islands for around 200 years . In the middle of the 20th century, it was brought to the attention of the Russian military and scientists in the European part of the Soviet Union and thus the international cat world.

Appearance

The Kuril Bobtail is a strong cat with a wild appearance. It is medium to large in size, stocky, with strong bones. The back is slightly arched. The legs are strong, longer at the back than at the front. The paws are round. The tail is kinked or bent with one or more knots. Its length is 3 to 8 cm ( brachyuria ). It is hairy longer than the rest of the body ( pompon effect ).

The head is large, shaped as a trapezoid, with rounded contours. The profile is slightly concave. The cheekbones are wide. The muzzle is medium long and wide. The chin is well developed.

The ears are large, wide, set high and tilted forward. The distance between the ears is about the width of an ear. The tips of the ears are rounded.

The eyes are round, wide and set a little slanted.

The coat of the semi-long-haired variants is medium-long with a lot of top coat and little undercoat. Neck and chest ruff, pants, ear tufts and ear brushes are desirable.

The colors chocolate, cinnamon, lilac and fawn are not recognized, as are points. All other colors are recognized in connection with all drawing variants.

Errors are:

  • Tail length between 8 and 12 cm or less than 3 cm.
  • Only one tail vertebra (so-called "delayed bobtail effect").
  • Too arched back.

The following leads to disqualification at exhibitions:

  • Missing caudal vertebrae.
  • Short, not (!) Kinked or bent tail.
  • Tail length over 12 cm.

Essence

Despite her wild appearance, she is a gentle cat. She loves her people and demands a lot of attention. She is very active.

genetics

The genetics of the tail mutation are described as incompletely dominant. This explains the different tail lengths. A lethal defect as with the Manx should not be associated with it. So Kuril Bobtails can be paired with each other without any problems. Therefore outcrosses are not allowed.
