Kypselus (King of Arcadia)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kypselos ( Greek  Κύψελος ), the son of Aipytos , was the father of Holaias and Merope in Greek mythology . He became king of Arcadia after his father and founded the city of Basilis , which he chose as his seat of government.

When the Dorians led a successful campaign against the Peloponnese , Kypselus married his daughter to the Doric general Kresphontes and thus prevented the conquest of his empire. However, during an uprising, Kresphontes and all of his sons were killed. Only the youngest son Aipytus survived and was raised by Kypselus.
