Praiseworthy singer society

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Löbliche Singergesellschaft from 1501 , or “die Löbliche” for short, is an association in Pforzheim that is oriented towards humanitarian, social, charitable, urban history and home care goals .

Die Löbliche describes itself as one of the oldest citizens' initiatives in Germany.

history

After the founding history of the association, the Praiseworthy Singer Society was formed as a brotherhood of pious Pforzheimers who made it their task to bury the dead in Christianity at the height of a plague wave . The name "Singergesellschaft" is explained by the singing of songs for the dead and psalms accompanying the funeral.

Despite the compulsory dissolution of the medieval Catholic brotherhood in the course of the Reformation , the association has held up to the present day.

Society explicitly differentiates itself from choral societies , secret lodges and sects . Since the reconstruction of Pforzheim after the Second World War, the Löbliche Singergesellschaft has primarily named free welfare and homeland maintenance as its goals and is religiously and politically independent.

Almost all of Pforzheim's mayors in the last few decades are or have been members of the “Praiseworthy”.
