Löchte is a German family name. It originated from a Low German place name or field name. In Hörstel ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) there was the name Löchte and in Asten / Netherlands a field name de Lochte . Loh, Lage, Luchte, Lechte, Lochte, Löchte denoted an elevated point in a wetland that offered people a chance to settle . The corridor name also stands for a light spot (clearing).

In the USA the name Lochte has existed since at least 1838 and Loechte since 1880. However, it is not one of the 50,000 most common family names there. From 1650 at the latest, the name Lochte existed in North Brabant / NL. The name Lochte has existed since 1812 and Loechte in Denmark since 1860 . In 1884 there was the name Lochte in Auckland Saint Andrew, Durham, England.
