The Lüderitzbrunnen in Gotha ( Thuringia ) is a bricked grotto on the Krahnberg in Gotha from 1830.

history

The Lüderitz fountain in 1932

On the way to the Berggarten there is a small pond, now known as the goldfish pond . You can walk on sandy paths around the pond and rest on a bench. Directly at the pond, a path leads to the right to the higher Lüderitzbrunnen, formerly known as Kreuzbrunnen . Its source rises about 50 meters on the upper Planweg. It carries calcareous water, which has been said to have a certain healing power. The name goes back to a master locksmith who, out of gratitude for his healing that was supposedly done by drinking the water, had the spring gripped in 1830. On both sides of the fountain there were sphinxes with a lion's abdomen and the upper body and face of a virgin from around 1840. In 1962 the sphinxes were cleared because of their poor condition. Its creator was the son of the sculptor Döll .
