Līdztiesība
Līdztiesība ( German equality ) was a political party in Latvia , which was mainly supported by the Russian- speaking minority in the country.
history
The party had its origins in the Līdztiesība faction of the Supreme Soviet of the LSSR . This parliamentary group united MPs (mostly Russian-speaking) who advocated the continued existence of the Soviet Union. Tatjana Ždanoka was chairwoman for many years .
The original parliamentary group was chaired by Sergejs Dīmanis and later Leonids Kurdjumovs . The organization, known as the "Movement for Equal Rights and Social Justice" in 1993, became a political party in 1996. Since 2000 it has been simply called “equal rights”. The leaders of the party were Sergejs Dīmanis and Tatjana Ždanoka , later Tatjana Ždanoka and Vladimirs Buzajevs . In May 1998 the party joined forces with the Socialist Party of Latvia and the People's Harmony Party to form the grouping “ For Human Rights in United Latvia ” and thus entered the Latvian parliamentary elections on October 5, 2002. The coalition received 18.9% of the vote and 25 out of 100 seats in the Saeima . In 2003 the party of the People's Harmony (Lat. Tautas Saskaņas partija ) resigned . At the 11th party conference of "Līdztiesība" 2007 it was decided to incorporate the party in Brīvā izvēle tautu Eiropā , the sister party of the electoral alliance.
