La 12 , in words La Doce (the twelve), is the leading fan group of the Argentine soccer club Boca Juniors .

Disambiguation

The name "La 12" or "El Jugador Nº12" (player number 12) refers to the support of the team by the so-called "twelfth man", that is, by the audience that unconditionally supports the team.

history

The term “La 12” (“player number twelve”) probably first appeared in 1925 when the Boca Juniors team made a trip to Europe. She was accompanied by Victoriano Caffarena, who belonged to a wealthy family who financially supported the team on this trip. Caffarena supported the team in all possible matters and acted, for example, as a masseur for the players. Therefore, he was soon called "the number twelve player". When the team returned from their trip, Caffarena was as well known as the players. Since then, he has dedicated himself to supporting his favorite club for the rest of his life, including the “Amigos de la República de La Boca” (Friends of the Republic of La Boca) fan group.

The term "player number twelve" for the fans of Boca was used generally for the first time in the 1930s, when the reporter Pablo Rojas Paz wrote in one of his articles: "The fans are the twelfth man at Boca".

In the 1960s, the club gave its fans the official name "Jugador Número 12" (player number 12). This was later taken over by the fan group, which is still known today under the term "La 12".

The leaders of La 12

In the 1970s Quique "El Carnicero" was the leader of the group "Jugador Número 12". When he resigned in 1981, the leadership passed to José Barrita "El Abuelo". When he and several other leaders of the group were sentenced to a long prison term for murder in 1997, Rafael di Zeo and his brother Fernando took over the group, which had around 2,000 members at the time. It has recently been led by Mauro Martín.

Rivalries

The main enemies of "La 12" are the Los Borrachos del Tablón from arch rivals River Plate .
