The La Flèche is an old French breed house chicken consisting hood chickens originated. The chicken takes its name from its place of origin, the French commune of La Flèche in the Sarthe department. It came to Germany around 1860.
The rooster weighs 3 to 3.5 kg , whereas the hen weighs only 2.5 to 3 kg. The laying performance of the chicken breed is specified by the BDRG as 180 eggs of 60 g each. The shell color of the eggs is white, sometimes with a hint of pink. La Flèche comes in the colors black, white, blue-lined, pearl-gray and pearled. La Flèche is also available as a dwarf La Flèche . The rooster comb, also called the horn comb, has a V-shape.
Around 1870 the La Flèche chicken and the Italian Lamotta chicken became the now extremely endangered German Augsburg chicken .
