La Sangre Azul ( German : The Blue Blood ) is the largest ultrà group of the Mexican football club Cruz Azul from Mexico City .

Disambiguation

"Sangre Azul" ( blue blood ) normally expresses belonging to the nobility in humans . In the present case, however, the exact opposite is meant; because the fans of the club founded by workers in a cement factory feel they belong to the working class and by no means to the nobility. The name is derived from the club name as well as from the shirt color and the cross in the club logo of the same color.

history

The idea of founding the group arose in December 2000 when some members of the now virtually no longer existing Ultra Azul group tried to form an Ultrà group based on the South American model.

In a league game played on January 13, 2001 against Irapuato , which was won 4-2, the group celebrated its official founding. The name "Sangre Azul" had prevailed over other names like "Sentimiento Azul" (Blue Feeling), "Maquina Azul" (Blue Machine) and "Honor y Lealtad Azul" (Blue Honor and Loyalty).

As early as 2004, the group had around 400 members and a large number of unregistered fellow travelers and sympathizers. Nevertheless, the group was not recognized by the association for a long time. When she repeatedly asked for official recognition, a code of conduct was presented to her, which included the self-commitment to refrain from chanting against the opposing teams and to refrain from any attacks on visiting fans. However, this requirement was not accepted by the Ultras.

Years later, after certain concessions, the group finally received official recognition and thus a certain amount of support from the association.

According to its own statements, “La Sangre Azul” currently has more than 3,000 members at home and abroad and is one of a total of twelve official fan clubs of the Cruz Azul football team.
