Label (control)

Input mask with text fields and labels (Firefox browser)

A label , even labeling field , is a control of a graphical user interface . It can display text and is mainly used to label other input or output fields; mostly in forms or reports .

Labels such as "First name" ( text field ) or "Yes" and "No" ( option field ) lead through an input mask, the text displayed by labels is therefore also called guide text .

Labels are passive controls; they can be clicked if necessary, but then affect another control element linked to them.
