Labitolosa

Labitolosa is an archaeological site from Roman times in Aragon ( Spain ) that was inhabited from the first century BC to the end of the second or beginning of the third century AD, and then abandoned. It is located in the municipality of La Puebla de Castro on the Cerro Calvario towering over the Esera valley .

excavation

Until the beginning of the excavations in 1991, Labitolosa was only known from an epigraphic document, an inscription discovered in the 16th century that refers to cives Labitolosani . The excavations are carried out by a mixed group of archaeologists from the Universities of Zaragoza and Bordeaux and the Grupo URBS in annual campaigns in August. Parts of the site, especially the thermal baths , are open to the public.

Duration

Two thermal bath buildings, the complex of the forum with the curia with various inscriptions and pedestals of statues , a domus and various other buildings were excavated . The heating system of the thermal baths was also excavated in a good state of preservation.
