The Lac de Yaté is an artificially created reservoir of about 4000 ha in the southeast of the southern province of New Caledonia in 1959 . The dam in the east of the lake has a height of 45 m and is about 640 m long. It produces electricity for the capital Nouméa , about 40 kilometers away, to the southwest . The dam dams the small rivers coming from the west, the Blue River (Rivière Bleue) and, to the south, the White River (Rivière Blanche). To the east, the water flows from the dam towards the Bay of Yaté (Baie de Yaté), where the sea lies. Another outlet of the lake is in the southeast, where the water km to about 10, east of the mountain Pic du Pin (469 m) over a waterfall, the Chutes de la Madeleine, flows in order from there to the lake Lac en Huit to reach. Larger mountains in the southwest of Lac de Yaté are Mont Pouédihi (230 m) and Mont Ouénarou (325 m).
