Lahu is a Tibetan-Burmese language spoken by the Lahu people in China and other countries. In older sources they are often called muhso , after the Tai word for hunter.
Besides the Lahu, the language is also spoken by other minorities in Yunnan as a lingua franca . In Thailand, the language is rarely used because it is not taught there. Lahu can be divided into three dialects, the speakers of which can only communicate with one another with difficulty.
