Spawning rust

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A spawning grid or spawning grid is an aid for the reproduction of non-viviparous fish , especially open and ground spawners in the aquarium .

This is a fine grid onto which delicate plants or mosses are preferably attached. The fish spawn on the grate so that the eggs fall through the grid and are therefore inaccessible to the parent animals or other predators. After spawning, the parent animals are removed and the spawning rust is removed after the young fish have hatched. This prevents eggs caught in the spawning grid from being removed prematurely and increases the hatching rate.
