Laila Hansen

Laila Kalistiina Hansen (* 1966 ) is a Greenlandic musician , theater maker , actress and the first Greenlandic film director .

life and work

Hansen has been writing pieces for radio, television and theater in Greenland since 1985. From 1987 to 1998 she worked again and again with the Silamiut drama troupe in Greenland, which was founded in 1986, and learned to act in 1989 in Denmark at the Tuukkaq Theater , which uses music and mask dance to portray traditional Inuit myths . In 1995/96 she studied film directing in Denmark and Vancouver .

In 1994 she worked as an actress in Toronto , in 1996 she worked with indigenous artists in several locations in Canada . Since then she has toured as a mask dancer in Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands , Iceland , the European continent, the USA and Canada.

In 1997 she became the director of TV Commercials in Greenland and was recognized for the best commercial film in Greenland. In 1998 she worked as a writer and multimedia performer for Inuit Barock Chock , an opera-hip-hop-jazz-blues musical in Copenhagen. Her documentary Inuk Woman City Blues on the situation and identity problems of Greenlanders living in Copenhagen, some homeless or drug addicts, is based on Jørgen Roos ' film Are you from Greenland? (1970).
