Lalia (rhetoric)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lalia is a formal term for "conversations in a conversational tone" introduced by Menander Rhetor in the epideictic writing About epideictic speeches ascribed to him .

The Lalia is characterized by formlessness and a calculated break with the strict conventions of late antique speech. It can be used not only in the epideictic gender, but also in deliberative and forensic rhetoric. Since the Lalia has to appear spontaneous and free, points of contact can be found here for impromptu speeches ( Extempore ) but also for modern small talk .
