Lambert von Zonnebeke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lambert von Zonnebeke , French Lambert de Zonnebeke (* before 1100; † 1122 or 1123) was a Catholic clergyman and bishop of Tournai and Noyon from 1116 to 1122.

Life

Lambert was a son of the knight Thietbold (Thibaud) of Ypres and grandson of Fromold, the founder of the Zonnebeke collegiate foundation in Flanders . Since 1100 Lambert was mentioned as Archdeacon of Tournai . In 1108 he was one of the addressees of the alleged appeal of the Archbishop of Magdeburg to rebuild the church in the Slavic areas east of the Elbe. In 1110 Lambert was also provost of the Zonnebeke monastery.

After 1113 he was appointed bishop. He was later accused of having supported his election and the prevention of the planned division of the diocese into two dioceses by making payments to the Pope. In 1115 he was at the Provincial Synod in Reims. From 1116 there is a document for the northern French abbey of Saint-Bertin , from 1122 for the church in Sijsele in West Flanders. After that he died and in 1123 his successor was elected.
