State animal protection officer
A land animal protection officer or country representative for (the) Animal protection is provided in several German states.
He mainly works in an advisory capacity for state administration and state politics and is the contact person for citizens' questions. The function is mainly carried out on a full-time basis.
The animal welfare ombudsman in the Austrian federal states has a comparable function .
Baden-Württemberg ( State Commissioner for Animal Welfare )
Baden-Württemberg introduced a state commissioner for animal welfare in 2012. She is appointed full-time. It is a staff unit with an advisory function that is technically and politically independent. She is the contact for animal welfare associations and clubs, citizens, politics as well as for organizations and institutions that deal with animal welfare or animal husbandry. She is also a member of the State Advisory Board for Animal Welfare, prepares information material and issues reports and opinions on certain legislative projects.
The veterinarian Julia Stubenbord has been the incumbent since 2017. The first state representative for animal protection was the veterinarian Cornelie Jäger from 2012 to 2017 .
Berlin
The animal welfare officer in Berlin has been an honorary post since 2008 and has been appointed full-time since 2017.
The veterinarian Diana Plange has been the animal welfare officer since June 12, 2017. Her predecessors in office were the veterinarian Klaus Lüdcke (2008–2012) and the human medicine specialist Horst Spielmann (2012–2017).
Brandenburg ( State Animal Welfare Officer )
In Brandenburg, the state animal protection officer is an independent, autonomous and instruction-free organizational unit. He is appointed full-time. The introduction goes back to the referendum against factory farming in 2016.
The veterinarian Stefan Heidrich has been in office since 2017.
Hessen (state animal protection officer )
In 1992, Hessen was the first federal state to appoint a state animal protection officer. She is appointed full-time. She heads an independent organizational unit that is not subject to instructions.
The veterinarian Madeleine Martin has been the incumbent since November 1, 1992.
Lower Saxony
The office holder since May 2016 is the veterinarian Michaela Dämmrich.
Saarland (State Commissioner for Animal Welfare)
In Saarland, the honorary office of the state commissioner or state commissioner for animal welfare was introduced by the Animal Welfare Association Lawsuit 2013.
The veterinarian Hans-Friedrich Willimzik has been the incumbent since 2014.
Saxony-Anhalt ( contact person for animal welfare issues )
The contact person for animal welfare issues was introduced in Saxony-Anhalt in 2015.
Veterinarian Marco König has been in office since 2016.
Schleswig-Holstein ( Animal Welfare Officer of the State of Schleswig-Holstein )
The graphic designer and head of a wildlife and species protection center Katharina Erdmann has been the honorary holder of office since December 2018.
