The National Assembly of German Associations in the Czech Republic (Czech: Shromáždění německých spolků v České republice ) is the umbrella organization of the German minority in the Czech Republic with its seat in Prague . Martin Dzingel has been the executive president of the state assembly since 2010 .

history

The National Assembly of Germans in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia was founded in 1991 as an umbrella organization for the newly emerging cultural centers of the German minority in the regions. This was done in contrast to the existing cultural association of the German minority, which had been politically co-opted in Czechoslovakia during socialism. In 2016 it was renamed the National Assembly of German Associations in the Czech Republic .

activity

The national assembly would like to make a contribution to German-Czech understanding and strives to promote the public perception of minorities in the Czech Republic. The national assembly's publication organ is the monthly LandesEcho . Further tasks and goals are cultural and educational work, social and political activities, economic development and the sponsorship of German-Czech meeting centers. One focus is on promoting German courses. The national assembly is responsible for the “Primary School of German-Czech Understanding” and the Thomas Mann High School in Prague.

structure

The state assembly currently has around 7,000 members. The national assembly is divided into 22 associations from the regions of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. It is the sponsor of the educational and social work BUSOW in Opava, the Bohemia Opava and the youth organization Jukon.
