The Landgrafenstein

The Landgrafenstein is a historical memorial stone in the Hessian community Schlangenbad . It was erected at the beginning of the 19th century and is a reminder of the Hessian-Homburg Landgrave Friedrich V , who on August 7, 1810 said goodbye to six of his sons who went to fight against Napoleon . The landgrave was a regular spa guest in Schlangenbad between 1780 and his death in 1820.

Originally the stone had stood in the middle of the avenue leading to Langenschwalbach . Only later was it moved to its current location above the valley floor of the Warm Bach .

The stone was created in the form of a bulbous baluster . On its front side, in the middle of a stylized laurel wreath, is the inscription:

VALETE
AUG VII.
MDCCCX
Goodbye
August 7th,
1810
