The Hilgenland landscape protection area with an area of ​​39.19  hectares is located in the area of ​​the independent city of Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The landscape protection area (LSG) was designated in 1994 with the landscape plan of the city of Hagen by the city council of Hagen.

The LSG in Hagen-Boele is surrounded by built-up areas in the east and south. A railway line borders in the west and the A 1 in the north. The LSG is mainly used for agricultural purposes.

Protection purpose

According to the landscape plan, the designation took place "because of the diversity, uniqueness and beauty of the landscape, especially in its function as a rural cultural landscape with ecologically valuable biotope structures (hedges, woody stocks, etc.) and because of its special importance as a recreational area close to the city for the districts of Boele and Boelerheide".
