History of the museum

Originally it was a farm with around 30 to 45 hectares of agricultural land and thus a medium-sized farm typical of Bornholm in the middle of the 20th century. The operation was only stopped in 1982 and the rest yard opened as an open-air museum in 1984. In 2015, the ensemble was expanded to include a modern building, the Madkulturhaus, so that Bornholm's food culture can be practiced directly.

Profile of the museum

Sow with piglets

The special attraction of this open-air museum is that it shows livestock farming with live chickens, geese, pigs and goats. The harnessing of horses for carriage rides is also demonstrated regularly. The employees of the museum wear the traditional clothing of those who worked in agriculture at the time. The square courtyard consists of the stables, a building that has been converted into a cash register area, a museum shop and a small cafe, and the manor house and its utility rooms with the traditional interior (furniture, crockery ...).
