Langemose

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Langemose is a moor near the Danish port town of Assens on Funen , between Bukkerup and Søllested .

In 1943 and 1944, clay pots were found during peat cutting in an area of 60 × 25 m , sometimes associated with animal bones.

In 14 cases, all the limb bones of a cow were found in addition to the vessels. Some of the bones were tied into bundles with ropes, some of which were tied to the handles of the vessels and others to wooden stakes. Only one bone came from a pig, very few from horses. The vessels could be assigned to the older Roman Empire. The meat must have been removed from the bones prior to landfilling.

The bones hadn't been buried or covered. Nevertheless, the finds were undisturbed.
