Long Cross (Numismatics)
In numismatics , long cross is a name for a right-angled cross depicted on one of the sides of the coin , the bars of which cross at right angles in the center and extend to the edge of the coin or to the inner edge of a legend . Thus the cross arms are the same length because of the circular shape of the coin. The use of the term thus deviates from heraldry , where a long cross is a Latin cross (i.e. the classic cross shape of Christian symbolism) designated. However, there are also descriptions of coins in which the term long cross is used in the latter sense, for example when describing the image of a person who is holding such a representational cross.
