Langrisser
Langrisser ( Japanese ラ ン グ リ ッ サ ー , Rangurissā ) is the name of a series of strategy role-playing games that have been developed by CareerSoft for Nippon Computer Systems since the early 1990s . The games appeared on various game consoles and were often ported , which often brought content and graphic enhancements with it. In total, the series comprises five different games, and two more that have the same name but different content and come from a different development team, which is why they are usually not counted as part of the series.
The series is set in a fantasy world in which the concept of two opposing gods and their struggle between one another determines life. This is mainly carried out by the two avatars , Bosel and Jessica, who are also bearers of the respective god swords, who have the power of their gods. Bosel has been blessed with Alhazard, and Jessica wears the Langrisser sword that gives the series its name. They determine the history of their world through the choice of their followers and the loan of their swords.
The games are typical representatives of their genre. One looks at the action from a bird's eye view, in which the story is progressed chapter by chapter. The main difference to other games of this type is that the units that you lead into battle alongside the heroes specified by the game are not fixed, but can be recruited by the player. A simple rock-paper-scissors concept is used, which defines the strengths and weaknesses of certain types of troops compared to others. Due to the free recruitment of troops and a stronger separation between hero and unit, the fights are much more extensive compared to other genre representatives and have more participating characters. There is also a simple development option for the acquisition of experience, each with several possible paths for the characters. From the second game onwards, there are options for developing the plot that offer a certain non-linearity. Also only in some games in the series does character development appear through questions of attitude, in which the answers given by the player create the main hero.
