Lanz point

Lanz point on the Lenzmann line

In medicine, the Lanz point is a point that divides the connecting line between the right and left anterior upper iliac spine ( spina iliaca anterior superior or simply SIAS) into two sections of one third to two thirds. It lies on the side of the right iliac spine about 5–6 cm medial to it. Tension pain at this point may indicate appendicitis ("appendicitis"), but is not conclusive or necessary to make a diagnosis.

The point is named after Otto Lanz , a Swiss surgeon.

The line connecting the two anterior upper iliac spines is also called the Lenzmann line after the German internist Richard Lenzmann .
