Slatted chair ti 1a

The slatted chair ti 1a is a wooden chair designed by Marcel Breuer at the Bauhaus in 1922 , which is considered an icon of the Bauhaus. It was made by the furniture workshop at the Bauhaus .

description

The frame of the chair consists of wooden slats of different lengths that have the same cross-section. This had the effect of saving material during production. The inclined seat is made of stretched fabric. The backrest is made of elastic back straps. Both should promote a comfortable and ergonomic sitting posture. The chair stood out from the voluminous furniture of its time due to its lightness and mobility and did not block the space. The Bauhaus marketed the chair from 1925 and referred to it in the sample catalog as “Chair for a living room TI 1a”.

meaning

The constructivist chair is one of a series of avant-garde wooden furniture designed by Marcel Breuer. Breuer's early conception of the draft can be recognized in it. It consisted of the fact that objects from formally similar, only slightly varied individual parts are assembled and the assembly is not concealed, but consciously emphasized.

With the development of the slatted chair in 1922, the furniture workshop at the Bauhaus turned to standard furniture that was composed of standardized components. The workshop produced this furniture in small series. She examined all models for their form and function, since they were intended to serve a fundamental reform of living.
