The Lawn Bay Ecological Reserve is a nature reserve off the island of Newfoundland , which is part of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador . It was established as a provisional reserve in 2009. In 2015 the protected area received its current status.
location
The 384.6 hectare reserve is located in Lawn Bay on the south coast of the Burin Peninsula . It includes the Colombier Islands ( ⊙ ) and the two islands Swale Island ( ⊙ ) and Middle Lawn Island ( ⊙ ). In addition, there are 370.7 hectares of water around these islands. The Lawn and Lord's Cove parishes are on the Newfoundland coast near the reserve.

fauna
The Lawn Bay Ecological Reserve was established to protect the only known breeding site for the Atlantic Shearwater in North America. This is a nocturnal sea bird that breeds in caves over a meter deep and has a life expectancy of over 50 years.
A larger breeding colony of the wave runner is located on the islands. Other seabirds that nest on the islands, are backed gull , American Herring Gull , Black Guillemot , kittiwake and guillemot . Occasionally also find tern and common tern one on the islands.
