Le Train des Plantations of the association Les Rails de la Canne à Sucre is a 2.5 km long museum - narrow-gauge railway in Sainte-Marie on the island of Martinique .

location

The museum train runs from the rum museum of the Saint James Sainte-Marie distillery through sugar cane and banana plantations over two Bailey bridges to the banana museum 2.5 km to the southwest. The line has the otherwise unusual gauge of the Usine Sainte-Marie (USM) of 3 feet 10 inches (1,168 mm).

Locomotives

030-T-Corpet steam locomotive

The Davenport diesel locomotive with the name Moïse , which is equipped with a 232 hp Deutz diesel engine, was excavated from the river bed of the Rivière Cerise together with other components used on the railway site in an extensive rescue operation .

A three-axle corpet steam locomotive is exhibited in a well-renovated but not operational condition.

business

The railway is operated by a group of railway enthusiastic pensioners from the RATP , SNCF , police and post office on weekdays except Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for excursions. It is the only railway still in operation on the island.
