Lead-in (data carrier)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The lead-in is at optical media (such as CDs) of the innermost region before the actual user data . Organizational information such as the table of contents of the data carrier is written in the lead-in. The lead-in is the counterpart to the lead-out , which serves as the final mark for optical data carriers.

If the optical data memory has not been completed, further sessions can be added that begin with lead-in, contain useful data and end with lead-out. Only as soon as the medium has been closed is it no longer possible to add further sessions.
