Light water

Light water or light water is called normal water in the field of nuclear reactor technology to differentiate it from heavy water . Light water is used in nuclear reactors as a coolant and as a moderator , i.e. to slow down the neutrons. Other effective moderators are heavy water and graphite .

The light water reactor , a thermal nuclear reactor with light water as moderator and coolant, is nowadays the most frequently used type of nuclear reactor as a power reactor.
