Power sensor

A power sensor is a combination of a torque sensor and a speed sensor or angle of rotation sensor . Power sensors can be used to e.g. B. to determine the applied or impressed power on waves. Physical performance is work per time, or expressed as a formula:

P = W / t

The core element of a power sensor is the torque sensor. By magnetoelastic sensors a Contactless torque measurement can be implemented on a shaft. Various technologies can be used for angle measurement, e.g. B. magnetic differential Hall sensor measurement or an inductive angle measurement.

Areas of application for power sensors

Power sensors are used in cycling, for example. With the information about the pedaling power of a driver, his driving behavior can be analyzed and an optimal training unit can be developed that is tailored to the driver. By measuring the pedaling power on the bike, z. B. different pedaling performance of the different legs can be determined. This information can e.g. B. also contribute to a faster recovery in the clinical improvement of motor skills in accident victims.

A typical application for power sensors is in pedelecs. In this application, the pedaling power is determined on the basis of the torque and the pedaling speed and used as a manipulated variable for a controller that controls an electric motor in order to couple electrical power to the drive wheel in addition to human power.
