Leones de Ponce

The Leones de Ponce are a professional baseball team of the Puerto Rico Baseball League (PRBL) based in Ponce , Puerto Rico . The Leones have won the national championship eleven times, including as the only team four consecutive titles (between 1942 and 1945). In 1972 they also succeeded in winning the del Caribe series .

The Leones de Ponce, along with the Indios de Mayagüez, are among the only teams in the league that have participated in all seasons since 1938. To this day, unique in the league, winning four consecutive championship titles in the early 1940s under George "Tubby" Scales , a manager of the Negro Leagues . Most recently, the Leones won the final of the 2008/2009 season with 4–1 games against the Lobos de Arecibo .

The home stadium of the Leones is the Estadio Francisco Montaner , which opened in 1949 and offers space for around 16,000 spectators.
